The receding monsoon is causing heavy rainfall in parts of Gujarat, and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ for certain regions, which may experience very heavy to extremely heavy rain over the next 24 hours, up until 8:30 AM tomorrow.
Following this, some areas will be placed under an ‘orange alert’, while others will be under a ‘yellow alert’.
There was very heavy rainfall in several areas of the Gujarat region, especially Surat, during the last 24 hours until 8:30 AM today. In addition, remote areas in the districts of Surat, Navsari, and Chhota Udepur as well as the Saurashtra region—most notably Amreli—saw heavy rainfall.
Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli are on red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely severe showers within the next 24 hours, according to the IMD advisory.
Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, and Amreli are on orange alert as they may experience heavy to very heavy rains, while Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Gir Somnath, Bhavnagar, and Diu are all under a yellow warning for heavy rainfall.
On September 27, isolated regions in the Saurashtra area, including Bhavnagar, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, are very likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. There is an orange alert in effect for these areas.
Meanwhile, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, and Navsari, along with Amreli, Gir Somnath, and Diu in the Saurashtra region, have been placed under a yellow warning for heavy rainfall.
There is a yellow alert in effect for Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and Bhavnagar in the Saurashtra region. Heavy rains are highly expected to occur in these regions on September 28.
