Ahmedabad-based danseuse and activist Mallika Sarabhai filed a complaint to the commissioner of Industries and Mines, Gandhinagar on July 1 i.e. Thursday to draw attention to the illegal mining in the Sabarmati river.
She has a farm on the river at Fetahpura village in Pethapur –Gandhinagar, and over the last many months sand is being taken from the river to depths up to 40 feet. In her complaint, she wrote, “I doubt if the licenses have been given for the same. The river is being raped. I have filed a complaint to the concerned Jilla Adhikari but to no avail.” She shared the pictures of illegal mining and asked for immediate action “to stop the loot of nature”.
