One more FIR has been filed against a Provincial Police Services (PPS) officer, for allegedly sexually exploiting a student at IIT Kanpur. The new charges against Mohammad Mohsin Khan, as well as his lawyer, include criminal intimidation and defamation, police confirmed on Wednesday.
The initial FIR was filed two weeks before the recent complaint. The student has accused Khan of threatening her with serious consequences and posting inappropriate content online with the intent to damage her reputation by making false allegations.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abhishek Pandey told a section of the media that the FIR was lodged on Tuesday under the relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
The police also mentioned that the former ACP and his lawyer would be called for questioning if necessary. They are alleged to have shared derogatory content on social media with the intent to defame the student. The student has since met with senior police officials, including Commissioner of Police Akhil Kumar, who directed the police to file an additional FIR against Khan and his advocate.
The student has reiterated her claim that Khan had sexually exploited her, falsely promising to marry her.
A five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Additional DCP (Traffic) Archana Singh, has been formed to investigate further. The student has already provided the SIT with a chat history that allegedly shows the ACP making inappropriate and lewd comments.
Khan, a 2013 batch PPS officer, was transferred to the DGP headquarters on December 12 after being accused of seeking sexual relations through deceitful means.
According to the police, Khan had enrolled at IIT Kanpur to pursue a PhD several months ago. While at the institute, he reportedly entered into a relationship with the student and promised to marry her after divorcing his wife. However, when he later failed to fulfil this promise, the student filed a complaint.
This new development adds further weight to the ongoing investigation, with police committed to ensuring that the case is thoroughly examined and the accused held accountable.
