Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) organised a valedictory ceremony for NEEV participants to award course certificates for successful completion of the courses, on Friday. NEEV, a community outreach programme of the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN), successfully trained nearly 150 rural youth and women in six skill development courses from April to June 2022. Professor Sharad Gupta, In-charge Dean, R&D, was present on the occasion to encourage the participants.
In this edition of Summer Skills Courses, a total of 145 people were trained at NEEV-IITGN, including 26 people in the Stitching Skills course, 30 people in the Beautician Skills course, 34 people in the Basic Computer Skills course, 26 people in the Spoken-English Skills course, 16 people in the Tally Skills course, and 13 people in the Vocational Skill course of wiring and CNC machining. Many of them have already begun to earn money as a result of their newfound abilities.
These courses are provided completely free of charge because of the Desai Foundation Trust’s financial assistance. NEEV only charges a refundable security fee of Rs 500 per participant, which is repaid once the training is completed. Furthermore, classes such as stitching skills and beautician skills, which are solely for women, are held in their hamlet.
During the ceremony, NEEV Coordinator, Soumya Harish said, “Through these projects, NEEV aims to empower women and youth from underserved communities to gain skills that can make them confident about moving forward in their life. At IIT Gandhinagar, we extend our institute’s resources as much as possible for the benefit of our neighbourhood communities.”
It’s also worth noting that the popularity of NEEV’s courses has spread beyond Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, since five outstation participants, mostly from the South Gujarat region, were welcomed this time. For the duration of their training, NEEV also supplied them with housing and boarding in the IITGN dorms at no cost to them
