In a new development regarding the alleged suicide of Akshit Hemant Bhukya, a 24-year-old second-year MBA student at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), police have sent his mobile phone, tablet, and laptop to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further analysis.
Bhukya was found hanging from the metal grille of a ventilator in his hostel room on Thursday. The forensic investigation is expected to provide more information on the circumstances leading to his death.
Bhukya’s father has claimed that his son was being harassed by someone within the institute over a dispute involving the use of the IIMA logo for an event sponsored by a private organisation.
He believes this pressure may have led his son to take the extreme step.
According to a police official from Vastrapur police station, the logo dispute had been resolved on September 20. The private organisation had withdrawn its sponsorship and removed a video featuring the IIMA logo from its Instagram page.
Sub-inspector RL Patel, the officer investigating the case, told VOI that statements have been taken from committee members and students involved in the incident.
“After the committee members and students stated, nothing suspicious has been found. We have also sent his mobile phone, laptop and tablet for forensic examination. If there are any messages directly linked to his tragic death, those can be recovered,” Patel noted.
The police investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected once the forensic analysis of Bhukya’s electronic devices is complete. Meanwhile, the student’s family continues to suspect external pressure was a factor in his death. Bhukya’s mortal remains have been handed over to his father.
