Earlier known as Fellow Programme in Management, a PIL filed in the Gujarat high court
is seeking the SC/ST and OBC quota in IIM’s dotoral programme.
A PIL was filed last week by an alumni associatioin of IIM-A requesting the court’s directions
to the central government authorities and the premier institute to extend the benefits
of the quota to the underrepresented communities.
IIMs in Bangalore, Calcutta and Kozhikode have also decided to implement the reservation for SC/ST
and OBC candidates and for disabled people.
The PIL has said that the quota system is not followed by IIM-A though it is governed and funded
by the Union education ministry and it calls for serious and immediate actions.
The alumni association had filed a similar PIL in 2018, however in 2020 the high court disposed it
off by stating that in case a person is aggrieved by IIM-A’s policy, he or she may approach
the court.
The new PIL is likely to come up for hearing post Diwali vacation.
