IGL Case: Ranveer Allahbadia Admits ‘Mistake’ During Police Interrogation

| Updated: February 26, 2025 18:18

YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia has admitted to making a “mistake” with his controversial comments on a show, according to his statement before the Maharashtra Cyber.

Officials confirmed that the Maharashtra Cyber and Mumbai police are investigating the remarks made by Allahbadia on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show, ‘India’s Got Latent’.

Allahbadia’s comments, which included crude references to parents and sex, sparked widespread backlash and led to multiple FIRs.

On Monday, he and fellow YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani appeared separately before the Maharashtra Cyber to record their statements in the obscenity case registered against them and others, an official said.

“In his statement, Allahbadia admitted that he made a mistake by making controversial comments on the YouTube show, for which he is being criticised,” the official stated.

The social media influencer further admitted to using specific words in his comments that contributed to the controversy.

Allahbadia told officials that he had attended the show because of his friendship with Samay Raina and claimed that he did not charge any fee for his appearance, the official added.

On Tuesday, the Maharashtra Cyber recorded the statement of social media influencer Apoorva Makhija in connection with the “India’s Got Latent” controversy. Makhija is among those named in the obscenity case.

Authorities have also summoned actor Rakhi Sawant to appear on February 27 as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Maharashtra Cyber is yet to record the statement of Samay Raina, the official said. Meanwhile, the Assam police are also conducting an investigation into an obscenity case against Allahbadia and others.
