The Former British Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, launched his bid to become the upcoming UK Prime Minister. After Boris Johnson resigned on Friday, the former Finance Minister of Britain put a step forward toward the PM seat.
Sunak has already started campaigning and released the video on his Twitter. During the campaign, Rishi Sunak said, “Someone has to hold onto the moment and make the right decisions.” He addressed the gathering and said he was running to be the next leader of the Conservative Party and the Prime Minister.
With his roots in Punjab, Rishi Sunak has two daughters with Akshata Murty, the daughter of NR Narayana Murty, founder of Infosys. Their love story began when they met as students in California.
The 49-year-old MP shared the story of his grandmother in a video. She boarded the plane to England as a young woman with hopes for a better life. Rishi continued, “She found a job. But, it took her a year to save enough funds for her husband and children to join her.” Later, Sunak, the candidate for the next British PM, added that family meant everything to him.
Sunak’s resignation triggered the copious resignations in the Boris Johnson cabinet, which eventually forced him to step down. Further, if Rishi Sunak becomes the Prime Minister of Britain, he will be the first Indian-origin man to hold the top seat.
