On Tuesday, the police arrested a man for reportedly killing his wife, and hiding her body for 40 days in Surendranagar underneath a pile of stones in a deserted area.
Ranjan Ben Odakhia, residing in Daldi village under Vinchhiya taluka of Rajkot district, since March 31, had gone missing. Rajesh Odakhia, Ranjan’s husband, had lodged a missing person report at Vinchhiya Police Station.
Since there was no sign of the victim in 40 days, her family members sat on an indefinite fast. They were proclaiming inaction from the police outside the station. The next day a team from the Vinchhiya police station arrested Rajesh for interrogation. Thereupon, the accused disclosed the site of Ranjan’s skeletal body hidden in a remote place outside Dokalava village in Chotila Taluka.
CP Mundhwa, Deputy Superintendent of the police, Limdi division, Surendranagar, said, “The accused took the victim to Chotila taluka on a motorcycle, where he stopped at a secluded place and strangulated her. He then, returned and told his family members that his wife had gone missing. We have booked the accused for murder in an FIR at Chotila police station.”
Rajesh allegedly strangled the victim and concealed the body under a mound of rocks.
The accused was in an alleged relationship with Ranjan’s sister Indu.
Rajesh had been married to Ranjan for the past four years with a three-year-old son, according to police.
