Heavy Rainfall Hits Gujarat: Jamnagar District Receives 2.5 Inches in Two Hours

| Updated: June 24, 2024 17:35

A total of 91 talukas out of the state’s 251 have experienced rainfall.

As predicted by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall has drenched parts of Gujarat since this morning. Lalpur taluka in Jamnagar witnessed a remarkable 2.5 inches of rain within just two hours, from 8 am to 10 am.

Data from the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar reveals that nine talukas received over one inch of rain in the six-hour period from 6 am to 12 noon today. A total of 91 talukas out of the state’s 251 have experienced rainfall.

By noon, the highest rainfall occurred in Jamnagar district, closely followed by Surat and Dwarka. Additionally, areas in Chotaudepur, Vadodara, Bharuch, Narmada and Panchmahal have also received over an inch of rain.

The Southwest Monsoon 2024 is expected to advance further in Gujarat in the coming days, prompting IMD to issue heavy rainfall warnings for specific regions over the next two days.

In Chhota Udepur district, intense rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms led to widespread power outages and fallen trees. In Gola village of Sankheda, two large trees blocked the road, disrupting travel between Bahadarpur and Gola. The forest department promptly cleared the route.

Tragedy struck in Barwala taluka, where a young man lost his life due to a lightning strike in Chokdi village. Meanwhile, in Moolila Village of Kalavad taluka, Jamnagar, a school bus became stranded after a breach in a pool, trapping children. Local villagers acted swiftly to rescue them.

Ahmedabad remained enveloped in darkness since early morning, with light rain affecting areas like SG Highway, Ranip, Ghatlodia, Gota and Ghuma.
