The weather forecast for three days of heavy rains around Ahmedabad during the ongoing monsoon season was found correct when on Saturday evening, the whole of Ahmedabad witnessed very heavy rainfall. In one very serious incident during these incessant rains, a man named Ranjit Prajapati, resident of Hari Darshan Society, near Gor no kuvo area of east Maninagar died electrocuted. He was brought to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Due to rains, many areas of Ahmedabad became waterlogged soon and commuters saw long lines of vehicles on roads as the rains started at the time when people get back to their homes after work. jams were reported at several places as many vehicles stopped functioning due to rain.
Rain was seen in many areas of Shivranjani, Shamal, Pahladnagar, Gota, and Navarangpura along with Bapunagar, Naroda, CTM, Khokhara and Maninanagr in Ahmedabad.
The area where this incident occurred and around, is turned into an island as soon as rains fall. Hatkeshwar circle, Khokhara and Tripada society all are surrounded by water. Ahmedabad rains are habitual in exposing the hollow claims of the civic authorities about their preparedness to confront the heavy rains. It takes the rains a few minutes to send the authorities scurrying to save their pride.
The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in many areas including Ahmedabad for the next two days. There will be heavy rain in Banaskantha, Patan, Aravalli, Mehsana of North Gujarat, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar also.
