Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in particular on Tuesday, accusing the ruling party of doing “grave injustice” to the nation’s youth, especially in Haryana.
He asserted that young Indians are being forced to embark on a “journey of torture” in search of employment abroad because the BJP has failed to offer sufficient employment prospects.
Rahul Gandhi emphasised the hardship of immigrants on social media by posting a video of his recent experience in the US.
He made the point that a large number of young people from the state were forced to leave their home states owing to unemployment, only to suffer terrible consequences overseas.
Gandhi posed the question, “Why did the youth of Haryana turn to Dunki?” in a post that accompanied the video on X (formally Twitter). The word “Dunki” refers to the illegal immigration method known as “donkey flights,” which has been more well-known since Rajkumar Hirani’s Shah Rukh Khan movie was released last year.
“Lakhs of families are paying the price of the ‘disease of unemployment’ spread by the BJP by being away from their loved ones,” he alleged.
The Congress leader had highlighted how the absence of jobs in India had left elderly family members without care and deprived children of their fathers’ support when speaking with Haryana’s youngsters in the US. Gandhi shared that when he met families of these immigrants back in India, their eyes “filled with pain” over the loss of their loved ones.
“In 10 years, the BJP has done a grave injustice to the youth of the country, including Haryana, by snatching employment opportunities from them,” he said. He continued by saying that because of the crisis, trust has been broken, pushing the young people to travel far from home in terrible agony in quest of employment.
He emphasised the importance of creating opportunities at home by saying, “If these migratory birds, separated from their nests, were given the chance to earn a living in their own country, among their loved ones, they would never leave their homeland.”
Rahul Gandhi went on to promise that if the Congress takes power in Haryana, they will set up a framework that would allow youngsters to pursue their aspirations without having to abandon their family or their nation. In line with the Congress party’s larger strategy, his statement indicates a strong emphasis on employment in the state ahead of the elections on October 5.
Rahul Gandhi had earlier met the family of a young man injured in an accident while on a visit to the village in the Karnal district, Haryana.
