Hollywood actor Harrison Ford will not attend the 97th Academy Awards after being diagnosed with shingles.
The 82-year-old, known for roles in Indiana Jones and Star Wars, was set to be a presenter at Sunday’s ceremony but was diagnosed on Friday. His representative informed entertainment news outlet of his condition and his absence from the event.
Ford’s latest film appearance is in Captain America: Brave New World, which is scheduled for release later this year.
Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is a painful rash caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus responsible for chickenpox. According to the Mayo Clinic, the condition can lead to severe nerve pain and other complications, particularly in older adults.
The Academy has lined up several other presenters for the event, including Dave Bautista, Gal Gadot, Andrew Garfield, Samuel L Jackson, Margaret Qualley, Alba Rohrwacher, Zoe Saldana and Rachel Zegler.
The 97th Academy Awards will be hosted by Conan O’Brien. The ceremony will be broadcast live in India on streamer JioHotstar and TV channel Star Movies.
