Mumbai Indians have announced Hardik Pandya as their new captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. This move is seen as a part of the franchise’s commitment to building a legacy and preparing for the future.
Mahela Jayawardene, Mumbai Indians’ Global Head of Performance, stated, “Mumbai Indians have always been blessed with exceptional leadership, right from Sachin to Harbhajan and Ricky to Rohit, who, while contributing to the immediate success, have always had an eye on strengthening the team for the future. It is in keeping with this philosophy that Hardik Pandya will assume the captaincy of the Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2024 season.”
Hardik Pandya, who had moved to Gujarat Titans two seasons ago when he was released by Mumbai ahead of the 2022 season, led Gujarat to the title in their debut season. His leadership skills were on full display during this victorious campaign.
Pandya returned to Mumbai Indians in November, following a deal of an undisclosed amount between Gujarat and Mumbai. As he takes on the mantle of captaincy, fans eagerly await to see how he will steer the team in the upcoming IPL season.
