President-elect Donald Trump has ruled out two of his former Cabinet members, ex-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former UN envoy Nikki Haley, from joining his upcoming administration.
Donald Trump has been elected as the 47th president of the United States, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in the election held on November 5.
Trump previously served as the 45th president from January 20, 2017 to January 20, 2021.
In a post on Truth Social, he said, “I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation.”
Haley was his ambassador to the United Nations for the first two years of his administration and Pompeo was Secretary of State and Director of the CIA throughout his first term. Later, both of his cabinet members competed against him in the Republican nomination for president.
Haley was the final opponent of Trump till February this year, while Pompeo withdrew from the contest early.
The two later supported his campaign. In July this year, Haley declared her support for Trump during the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin.
Trump did, however, express gratitude for the service of his two former Cabinet members in their roles. “I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously and would like to thank them for their service to our country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he said.
