The government shared that the unit-3 of the Kakrapar atomic power plant in Gujarat is predicted to begin commercial operation by December this year. It shall start operating only after achieving stage- wise regulatory clearances.
Jitendra Singh, atomic energy minister in reply to a question in the Lok Sabha shared that unit-3 modifications and developments based on commissioning feedback have been carried out already. The unit is now being prepared for startup and slowly being changed from progressive power raise to full power in line with regulatory clearances.
During the unit commissioning, problems such as following synchronisation with the grid, rising high temperatures in certain areas of the reactor building etc were observed, All the issues have been taken care of by carrying out the needed modifications.
Singh also talked about unit-4 of KAPP which has attained a progress of 93.65% as of June 2022. Other reactors such as RAPP7 and 8 have achieved physical progress of 95% and 80.8% respectively.
Progress of units in Gorakhpur, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh were also given. Excavation has already begun at Kaiga 5 and 6 units.
