At least 12 workers were killed when a wall collapsed at a salt packaging factory in Gujarat’s Morbi district on Wednesday.
According to reports, the incident occurred at a factory in the Halvad GIDC area. The victims were said to be workers at the Sagar Salt Factory. Approximately 30 workers are believed to be trapped beneath the debris.
State Labour and Employment Minister and local MLA Brijesh Merja told reporters that 12 factory workers have died and efforts are on to rescue others who might have been trapped under the debris.
Taking note of the incident, Prime Minister Modi took to Twitter to express his condolences, writing, “The tragedy in Morbi caused by a collapsed wall is heartbreaking. My thoughts are with the bereaved families at this difficult time. May the injured recover quickly. Local governments are doing everything they can to help those who have been affected.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of those who lost their lives and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
