Gujarat to Experience Milder Winter, Predicts IMD

| Updated: December 3, 2024 16:39

Gujarat is likely to experience a milder winter this year, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting normal to above-normal maximum and minimum temperatures for the region. The long-range forecast (LRF), released on Monday, suggests that the state may not see the typical chill associated with the season.

The IMD has predicted above-normal maximum temperatures across most of India, with southern Peninsular India being the exception, where normal to below-normal temperatures are expected. “Below-normal cold wave days are anticipated across northwest, central, east, and northeast India during the upcoming winter season,” the forecast stated.

For December, the IMD expects monthly minimum and maximum temperatures to remain above normal nationwide. On Monday, Ahmedabad recorded a minimum temperature of 16.2°C, one degree above normal, while the maximum temperature was 30°C, slightly below normal by 0.9 degrees.

The IMD forecasted a rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3°C over the next three days, after which no significant changes are expected. For Tuesday, the minimum temperature in Ahmedabad is likely to hover around 17°C.

“Rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius during the next three days. Thereafter, no large change in minimum temperatures is very likely over the region,” the IMD said.

On Monday, Rajkot recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 32.8°C, while Naliya logged the lowest minimum temperature at 12°C.
