Gujarat State Cabinet All Set For Expansion

| Updated: July 2, 2024 12:02

The Bhupendra Patel-led state cabinet in Gujarat is all set for expansion and reshuffle after Lord Jagannath Rathyara on July 7. The Gujarat unit of the BJP is also expected to get a new president.

During his recent visit to New Delhi, Patel had called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the grapevine in the political circles is that the expansion is due any time soon.

The executive committee meeting of the state BJP will be held in Sarangpur from July 4. Apart from the executive committee members, the party has invited taluka-level leaders also.

Sources said that the possibility of the party getting a new president is not ruled out. The incumbent state BJP president C R Paatil is expected to resign after he became minister in the Modi Cabinet at the Centre. Normally, the BJP follows one person, one-post policy.

There is a probability of having an OBC leader as the state party president. If the BJP appoints an OBC leader as the state party president, then it will do a balancing act as it has a Patidar as the chief minister.
In the cabinet reshuffle/expansion, there is a possibility of a few ministers being dropped. Grapevine has it that Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi might get a cabinet rank. Previously also, Sanghavi held the minister of state rank in the BJP government.

There is a possibility that out of the five former MLAs, who recently won the bye-elections on the BJP tickets, two could be inducted into the state cabinet.

Arjun Modhwadia from Porbandar and C J Chavda from Vijapur are strong contenders. Both are Congress turncoats.
