UP (2,76,217) at the top-notch is followed by Delhi and Karnataka, according to the data tabled in Loksabha.
Gujarat have 17,593 electric vehicles as of January 31, 2022. To note, lesser developed states such as Assam (47,947), Bihar (64,241) and Uttarakhand (25,451) have more electric vehicles compared to Gujarat.
The Union Ministry of Heavy Industries informed that as part of the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020, about 2.8 lakh electric vehicles were supported by the government. An incentive of Rs 359 crore under phase-I of Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid) and Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) will be provided by the government. The ministry also sanctioned 520 charging stations for Rs 43 crore on Phase-1.
No charging stations were set up in Gujarat during Phase-I. 278 electric vehicle charging stations were sanctioned for the state under Phase-II. Later,10 charging stations were sanctioned on the Expressway between Ahmedabad and Vadodara.
Then an additional 30 stations for the under-construction Surat-Mumbai expressway.
Anyway, the number of electric vehicles in Gujarat is less than two per cent of the total 9,66,363 electric vehicles in the country.
