| Updated: December 3, 2021 19:18

The students appearing for SSC exams in Gujarat will have the option to choose between the two separate exams – Basic and Standard – from Mathematics from the year 2021-2022. As per the notification from Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB), there have been certain changes in the conditions for the exams.

The notification mentioned that after due consideration, two provisions of the examination have changed. The provisions numbered six and seven were changed.

According to the improved provisions, the student who will opt for Basic mathematics in grade 10, that student will be able to obtain admission in the grade 11 science stream ‘B’ group. However, that student will not be able to opt for ‘A’ or ‘AB’ group.

If a student has passed in Basic Mathematics in grade 10 and wants to get admission in “A” or “AB” group in grade 11 of the science stream, then he has to appear for Standard Mathematics examination during the supplementary examination in July to secure admission in ‘A’ or ‘AB’ group.

Before these provisions, if a student opts for Basic Mathematics in grade 10, that student will not be able to secure admission in the science stream altogether in grade 11 and will have to appear for supplementary exams in July to take admission in the science stream.

The first notification about the two separate papers was sent by GSHSEB on 14 July 2021. The notification stated that there will not be any change in the syllabus or textbook for both exams. It will remain the same.

Standard Mathematics is only required for the students who want to get admission in the science stream, that too in ‘A’ or ‘AB’ group.
