A man accused of indulging in illegal sand mining has reportedly rammed his SUV into the scooter of a Right to Information activist, injuring him and killing his 24-year-old son in Gujarat’s Kutch district. The alleged sand mafia is arrested.
Dalit RTI activist Ramesh Balia who hails from Meghpar village in Lakhpat taluka had lodged complaints of illegal sand mining against Navalsinh Jadeja, the accused of killing.
On October 3, when Balia and his son Narendra were returning home after visiting Dayapar village around 6.30 pm, Jadeja’s SUV rammed them from behind and ran them over. Narendra Balia died on the spot and his father was rushed to a hospital in Bhuj for treatment.
A First Information Report was registered against Jadeja for alleged murder as well as under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Court has sent Jadeja to one-day police custody.
