Gujarat on Wednesday reported more than double Covid-19 positive cases with 42 positive cases in 24 hours. According to the government bulletin, the state had reported 29 fresh cases on Monday and 20 on Tuesday.
State’s cases of Wednesday include 16 cases from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) – which used to report single-digit cases since mid-July, except October 2, which reported 10 cases in 24 hours. Notably, the state has been reporting between 15 to 35 positive cases per 24 hours in three weeks since October 21.
Apart from this, Morbi and Bharuch, which reported their last positive cases on July 30 and in mid-August, also reported a case each on Wednesday.
The reason behind the spike is cited to be the Diwali festivities by the officials. The officials have said that people were not coming for tests due to the festive days and they are turning up now, increasing the number of Covid tests, which can be a probable reason for the spike. Another possibility is speculated to be the families with travel history during Diwali which could have contributed to the active caseload of the state.
Besides, five cases each have been reported in Surat Corporation and Valsad with Vadodara Corporation reporting 4 positive cases. Also, Rajkot Corporation and Junagadh reported two positive cases each on Wednesday.
