Gujarat recorded 998 cases and 16 deaths in the last 24 hours. The death rate is on the decline after months of recording anything between 20-30 deaths. The spike in cases began in Gujarat in mid-November last year as the Omicron variant made an entry into the country after being first detected in South Africa late last year.
Over the months, the daily cases — which was showing a high of over 50,000 cases in 24 hours — has now come down to 1000s per day. Given the decline in the Covid cases, the state government also gave relaxations in Covid curbs by bringing down the night curfew from 10 pm to 6 am to 12 am to 5 am. Home delivery for restaurants and hotels is now also open 24X7.
With today’s update, Gujarat’s active tally stands at 11,195 of which 77 patients are on ventilator support.
Yet again, Ahmedabad logged most cases with 366 infections, closely followed by Vadodara (162), Vadodara rural (49), and Gandhinagar rural (36).
