Waghodia BJP MLA Dharmendrasinh Vaghela has come under scrutiny after a rape accused was seen dancing at an event hosted by his charitable trust in Amodar village in Vadodara.
The accused, identified as Aakash Gohil, was captured on video during the Saturday night programme. Footage circulating on social media shows Gohil on stage at a ‘dayro‘ (folk song event), flinging currency notes into the air. Another individual is seen garlanding him as a folk artist performs alongside.
Responding to the incident, Vaghela denied any prior knowledge of Gohil’s attendance. “These events are open to everyone, and I don’t even know who he is. With such a large crowd, it’s impossible to monitor every attendee,” he told a national daily.
According to Vaghela, party workers recognised Gohil once he reached the stage and swiftly asked him to leave. “He was sent away, but he may have uploaded the videos himself. He has no association with our party or event. It’s possible that the dayro group invited him,” Vaghela clarified.
Gohil, who is reportedly affiliated with the BJP, was arrested by Nandesari police last year following allegations of rape made by a married woman. The woman claimed that Gohil entered her room in September while she was alone and assaulted her. He is currently out on bail.
