Gujarat: Radadiya-Naresh Patel Feud Out In Open

| Updated: July 12, 2024 09:33

The feud talked about in a hushed tone until now between the two biggest power centers among the mighty Leuva Patidar community in Gujarat has spilled out in the open. The simmering discontent between the group led by Jetpur MLA Jayesh Radadiya and Khodaldham Trust Chairman Naresh Patel has come out in the open with the latter accepting it obliquely.

The difference between the two leaders seems to have its immediate cause in the recently held IFFCO elections where Jayesh Radadiya defiantly contested against the BJP nominee and defeated Amit Shah protege Bipin Gota. In the background of this election, Naresh Patel is said to have campaigned against Jayesh Radadiya through Dinesh Kumbhani, a Khodal Dham Trustee of which Naresh Patel is chairman. People believe the seeds of the feud were sawn earlier in 2017 during the Gujarat assembly elections.

After the win, Jayesh Radadiya acted by halting the purchase of chemical fertilizers from Dinesh Kumbhani’s company in the cooperative societies of Rajkot and Morbi districts., hurting the Khodal Dham trustee business interest directly.

The Cold War had remained away from the public eye till the time Naresh Patel chose to refer to it at a blood donation function organized on his birthday. When Naresh Patel remarked, “Differences within the family should remain private’, it underlined the existence of differences.

After his win at IFFCO, Jayesh Radadiya had taken a subtle jab at Naresh Patel saying that social organizations should stay out of the political arena. Three months after that remark, Naresh Patel responded by saying that they had supported Radadiya when necessary.

Khodaldham is a significant religious and social institution for the Patidar community. Naresh Patel is the Chairman of Shree Khodaldham Trust. Naresh Patel is a significant leader within the Leuva Patidar community, known for his industrial endeavors and community leadership. His influence extends to both social and political spheres in Gujarat.

Leuva Patidars, a sub-group of the Patel community in Gujarat, hold significant influence in 48 out of the 182 assembly seats in Gujarat.
