The Gujarat police has announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of six human smugglers who have been on the run for a long time. The accused are Rajni alias Sunny Patel, Rakesh Rai alias Robert, Bipin Darji, Amandeep Singh, Pankaj Patel and Zakir Shaikh. Most of them are believed to have escaped abroad using fake passports.
The State Monitoring Cell (SMC) is probing the case, which has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Passport Act at the Sola police station. The accused are involved in a racket of sending people to foreign countries illegally by charging exorbitant amounts of money.
According to a senior police official, the agents charged Rs 60 to Rs 75 lakh for one single immigrant, Rs 1 crore to Rs 1.25 crore from couples and an extra amount of Rs 1.25 lakh to Rs 1.75 lakh for couples with children. The police has appealed to the public to come forward with any information about the whereabouts of the accused and help in cracking the case.
