The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Special Operation Group of Bharuch police raided a pharma company operating from Jolva village near Dahej in Bharuch and seized 1200 litres of illegal substance worth Rs.31 crore. Working on a tip-off, the police raided Alliance Pharma Company and recovered the material used to manufacture mephedrone, a banned synthetic stimulant drug.
The liquid found at the Alliance Pharma Company at Jolva, Bharuch appears to be in the final stages of the process to make the final product. The substance is processed through various stages to make it consumable as a drug. The manufacturers would have been able to supply the final product in the illicit market after one more process.
The mephedrone, a drug getting popular among youth, also called MD drug is a real menace for the people of Gujarat. The racket is spread all over India, involving several states. Looking to the quantity of the drugs found, It is likely that many big shots might be involved.
Bharuch is fast becoming a notorious hub for such activities of manufacturing drugs on an industrial scale. There has been several reports of a workshop or factory found manufacturing illegal drugs from the area. Recently, one such factory was found in a village near Jambusar. In Ankleshwar too, a large haul of drugs worth Rs. 1300 crore was found from a company named Infinity research. Bharuch is known as an important chemical industry hub and a home to many nationally and internationally known respectable companies. However, some unscrupulous elements have started taking advantage of the chemical industry and started manufacturing illicit drugs.
The law enforcing agencies have sent the sample of the seized material to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). Further action on the company shall be carried out after the receipt of FSL report. Meanwhile, police have arrested one man named Vikram Rajput.
