The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding a spell of a heatwave that Gujarat can experience in the next five days. The forewarning mentioned that in association with the dry weather situation, the heatwaves might last from 9th to 13th April 2022. IMD gave a day-wise weather forecast for different districts of Gujarat state.
From the 9th to the 13th of April, the North Gujarat region, especially the Banaskantha and Kutch districts, is likely to experience heat waves. The notice repeatedly mentions that “Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions very likely to prevail at isolated pockets in the district of the North Gujarat region, namely Banaskantha and Kutch district.”
Additionally, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, and Vadodara will face mild heatwave conditions. Certain regions in Saurashtra are also likely to experience a temperature rise. The areas mentioned in the warning are Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, and Amreli.
The Met Department informs us that areas in the North Gujarat region like Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, and Gandhinagar, and areas in the Saurashtra region, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Amreli, and Kutch, will witness mild heatwaves on the 11th, 12th, and 13th of April.
IMD has diligently also mentioned the impacts and consequences of these heatwaves in Gujarat. The notice says that people exposed to the sun for a prolonged period or doing heavy work can experience illness and dehydration. There are also high health concerns for vulnerable people like infants, children, senior citizens, or patients with chronic diseases.
The notice advises the citizens of Gujarat to avoid heat exposure, dodge dehydration, and drink sufficient water. It also suggests drinking homemade drinks like lassi, buttermilk, lemon water, etc. IMD advises wearing lightweight, light-colored, loose clothes and covering our heads.
