Eighteen-year-old MBBS student from a medical college in Gujarat’s Patan district died on Sunday, allegedly after being forced to stand for three hours during a ragging incident with senior students.
The deceased was a first-year MBBS student at the college who reportedly fell unconscious after being forced to stand for an extended period of time.
The college dean, Dr Hardik Shah, stated that the victim, Anil Methaniya, reportedly died after being forced to stand for three hours by his seniors during ragging at a hostel of the GMERS Medical College and Hospital in Patan’s Dharpur.
“The student was rushed to the hospital after he collapsed, and attempts to revive him failed and he was declared dead. His classmates said Methaniya died after being made to stand for three hours and introduce himself before seniors at the college hostel,” he said.
He remarked that the college’s anti-ragging committee has started an investigation into the issue and that senior students would face consequences if they are proven to be involved in ragging.
