A 31-year-old man committed suicide after his girlfriend made a demand of Rs 1 crore from him to apply for an investment visa for Canada.
His mother has filed an application with the Naroda police station. According to the application filed by his mother Jaya Makhija, his girlfriend demanded Rs 1 crore from him. Though the family is into a well-settled business, they could not afford to provide her with such a huge sum of money. When Lakhan refused, his girlfriend left him, and shocked and grief-stricken Lakhan took his own life by hanging from the fan in the living room on February 21.
His mother says that they are representing the case before the police with evidence of a WhatsApp conversation between her son and his girlfriend but no FIR has been registered for abetment to suicide against her. Lakhan’s younger brother Sandeep Makhija said that the family has slipped into depression after the incident, says they are falling on deaf ears. Six days have already passed by and the police keep telling us that the investigation is on.
Makhija and the girl came into contact during morning walks They started meeting each other frequently and fell in love. However, she had other plans and wanted to immigrate to Canada and wanted Rs 1 crore from him for applying for an investment visa but he could not afford it.
According to Sandeep, the girl had allegedly told Lakhan that she knew several men who would readily give her money. She refused to marry him when he pleaded not to part with Rs 1 crore, after this, he fell into depression.
On February 20 late at night, Lakhan narrated the sequence of events to his father Rambasant Makhija. They decided to talk about it in the morning but his mother found him hanging from the fan in the living room when she woke up in the morning. After his final rites, the family resorted to legal ways and were asked to file an application and wait for the preliminary investigation.
DCP Zone-4 Rajesh Gadhia states that the case is being taken seriously by the police. He stated that the applicants have claimed that the evidence in the WhatsApp, of the deceased, has been deleted. The phone is sent for forensic examination to retrieve those WhatsApp messages. If found guilty, the accused will not be spared.
