Gujarat recorded 9,941 cases – a rise of 33% from yesterday – and four deaths in the last 24 hours. With today’s update, the state’s active cases tally went up to 43,726 and the number of fatalities since the start of the pandemic reached 10,136. The four who succumbed to the infection were from Surat, Rajkot and Valsad. Besides four deaths, as many as 51 patients are on ventilator support. No Omicron infections were logged in the last 48 hours.
The state has added over 45,154 cases in just seven days. Ahmedabad alone contributed 40% to these cases. According to the figures released by the AMC, the city has a Covid-19 positivity rate of 21.5% as compared to the state’s average of around 8%.
Yet again, Ahmedabad Corporation remained the biggest contributor with 3,843 cases – a rise of 34% compared to the tally on Tuesday. Other major contributors include Surat (2,505), Vadodara (776), Rajkot (319), Valsad (218), and Gandhinagar (150). Ahmedabad rural recorded 61 cases.
While the state had no Omicron cases today, there were 13 discharges, thereby taking the active Omicron tally in Gujarat to 26. The total number of Omicron cases in Gujarat since the variant entered the state stands at 264, as against 238 discharges.
Scenario Across India
India recorded 1,94,720 lakh fresh Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of cases in India to 3,60,70,510, of which 4,868 cases are of the Omicron variant, according to the Union Health Ministry health briefing today. Delhi fared worst with over 27,000 cases and 50 deaths in the past 24 hours. Delhi positivity rate goes up to 26%.
With today’s update, the country’s active cases rose to 9,55,319, the highest in 209 days, while the death count climbed to 4,84,655 with 442 fresh fatalities, according to data updated on the Union Health Ministry website.
The active cases comprise 2.65% of the total infections, while the national coronavirus recovery rate decreased to 96 per cent, the ministry said.
