Gujarat recorded 12,753 cases – a rise of 26% from yesterday’s tally of 10,150 – and five deaths in the last 24 hours. With today’s update, the state’s active cases tally went up to 70,374 and the number of fatalities since the start of the pandemic reached 10,164. The five people who succumbed to the infection were from Ahmedabad (1), Surat (3), and Panchmahal (1). Besides five deaths, as many as 95 patients are on ventilator support. No data on Omicron infections were provided for the sixth consecutive day.
The state has added over 70,692 cases in just seven days. Ahmedabad city alone contributed 30% to these infections.
Yet again, Ahmedabad Corporation remained the biggest contributor with 4,340 cases – a rise of 33% compared to the tally on Sunday. Other major contributors include Surat (2,955), Vadodara (1,207), Rajkot (464), Valsad (340), and Gandhinagar (212). Ahmedabad rural recorded 69 cases.
Scenario Across India
India’s Covid curve showed marginal improvement today as the country reported 2.58 lakh cases — around 5% lower than yesterday. As many as 385 people have died of Covid in the past 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry updated data.
The country’s caseload now stands at 3.73 crore. This includes 8,209 cases of the Omicron variant. The heavily mutated variant is now present in 29 states, the Union Health Ministry confirmed.
Besides the daily update, the officials stated that the active cases in the country now comprise 4.43% of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has decreased to 94%.
