Gujarat Leads India’s Semiconductor Sector with US $14 Billion Investments

| Updated: July 17, 2024 12:07

The Indian government launched the Semicon India Programme, backed by a substantial US $10 billion investment to position India as a key partner in the Global Semiconductor Supply-Chains. Inspired by the Semicon Vision, Gujarat emerged as the frontrunner by announcing a dedicated Semiconductor Policy, providing additional state support for semiconductor and display fabrication facilities.

These proactive measures have significantly bolstered investor confidence, propelling Gujarat to the forefront of India’s semiconductor industry. The state has attracted investments exceeding US$ 14 billion under the India Semiconductor Programme.

Semiconductors span various sectors, including substrate materials, chemicals, gases, metals, equipment and downstream applications. To thrive in this ecosystem, Gujarat leverages its distinct advantages, including state-of-the-art logistics, utilities and a skilled workforce.

The upcoming Gujarat SemiConnect Conference, scheduled for July 19, 2024, at the Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre, aims to foster collaboration between top semiconductor companies and local industries. Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel will inaugurate the event, which will feature executives from leading global semiconductor supply-chain industries.

Micron Technology, Tata Electronics and CG Power—approved project proponents establishing semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Gujarat—will serve as Knowledge Partners for the conference. Invest India and the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) also participate as Knowledge Partners.

Gujarat SemiConnect 2024 seeks to motivate and facilitate local industries, encouraging them to diversify and integrate into the burgeoning semiconductor ecosystem. The conference will bridge interactions between major project proponents and local businesses across sectors such as chemicals, gases, automation, electronics and IT.

Industry veterans, including Randhir Thakur (CEO, TATA Electronics), Arun Murugappan (Executive Chairman, Tube Investments) and Gursharan Singh (SVP, Micron), will share insights. Additionally, H.E. Director General of the Taiwan Economic & Cultural Centre (TECC), Homer Chang, will deliver a special address. International partners, including JETRO (Japan External Trade Organisation), KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency) and USISPF (US-India Strategic Partnership Forum), contribute to the conference’s global perspective.
