The former Gujarat Congress chief, who has been directly or indirectly controlling the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) for almost a decade now – Bharatsinh Solanki is now enraged by the neglect of his supporters and camped in Delhi. A day before his departure, he openly demonstrated his power by calling his supporting MLAs. He has reached Delhi with his complaints, when Jagsidh Thakor is the clan head for the state.
Meanwhile, the former president of GPCC, Amit Chavda is still looking after the management at Rajiv Bhavan. Chavda too is the product of Solanki’s favoritism and kindness and therefore people seeking political appointments in Congress used to contact and go to Solanki instead of the new chief Jagdish Thakor. Although the Solanki fold was not included in the probable list of two working presidents.
Once very close to the high command, Solanki was not given priority even as the head of cities in the recent list, which points out his lost importance at 10, Janpath. Apart from this, Rahul Gandhi came down on Solanki for tarnishing the party’s image due to his personal dispute with his wife, Reshma.
At the same time, Arjun Modhwadia is also unhappy with the current PCC and Jagdish Thakor too seems dissatisfied as Vijay Dave, who resigned in public, accusing Thakor’s son of increasing interference in the party, has become the vice president.
If sources are to be believed, Solanki is surrounded by his own people in Congress. Now it will be an awaited show as to how will the high command react to his politics of pressure.
Notably, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) had announced the first major list of appointments in the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Thursday, ahead of the state Assembly Elections. The list included 75 general secretaries and 25 vice presidents.
