In yet another unanticipated move, one of the top officials of Aayakar Bhavan, Ravindra Kumar is soon likely to be transferred once again. He was posted in Ahmedabad from Kerala but Income Tax sources tell Vibes of India that Kumar is likely to be moved to Delhi.
This is the second transfer in a month for Ravindra Kumar a 1986 batch IRS officer. Ravindra Kumar came to Gujarat from Kerala and is now very soon to be transferred to Delhi.
Sources told VoI that Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (PCCIT), Gujarat could also be elevated and accommodated as a member in the CBDT. The Central Board of Direct Taxes is an apex body of income tax department.
Ravindra Kumar has so far been in Gujarat for about 24 days. Ahmedabad was not a new place for Ravindra Kumar who had been posted here from July 2010 to January 2015 as Commissioner, Income Tax, Gujarat.
A native of Jharkhand, Kumar did his BTech in Civil Engineering from IIT-Delhi. In his career of 35 years, he has worked in Kochi (July 2020- July 2021), Thiruvananthapuram (Jan 2019- July 2020), Mumbai (Jan 2015-2019) Ahmedabad (July 2010- Jan 2015), Orissa (July 2007- July 2010), Mumbai (1997-July 2007), North-Western region (June 1998-May 1990), Bihar (May 1990-June 1997). Ravindra Kumar is considered an expert in corporate taxation and investigation.
Sources told VoI that the Committee of Secretaries (CoS) is to meet on July 29 and 30 to select three new board members of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the apex body of the Income Tax department. Of around 19 contenders for the post, Kumar is the chosen one to fill up the vacant post in the CBDT. Currently, the CBDT Board has five members headed by JB Mohapatra as Chairman.
