Gujarat Police rescued R K Vasava, an Assistant Commissioner, Industries Department, posted in Palanpur, Banaskantha, after a chase from the grip of kidnappers. This is the first such kind of crime in Gujarat when a senior government official is kidnapped in broad daylight. Vasav is a Class-1 officer, due for retirement in a week. he was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs. 50 lakh.
Rambhai K Vasava was kidnapped when he was travelling to Himmatnagar for personal work. he had been on medical leave on that fateful day. Two people intercepted his vehicle on the highway near Giyod village and forcibly kidnapped him.
Police swung into action after being informed by the locals who witnessed the incident. Gandhinagar district police’s Local Crime Branch (LCB) and Special Operation Group (SOG) could locate the kidnappers’ vehicle near Dedu Chokdi on Vijapur-Mansa road and rescue the officer after an action-packed chase that resulted in a minor collision.
Police arrested two kidnappers who are identified as Bhiku Bharwad, a resident of Bhavnagar and Rohit Thakor from Banaskantha. The primary interrogation by police revealed that the kidnappers were acting at the behest of Hitesh Bharwad alias Budho from Bhavnagar. Interestingly, Budho and Vasava have known each other since Vasava’s posting in Bhavnagar a few years ago. An FIR is registered with the Chiloda police station, Gandhinagar.
As per media reports, the mastermind had been approaching Vasava since some time, threatening him and asking for ransom. However, Vasava did not budge. Vasava’s wife also provided valuable clues to the police, enabling them to trace phone numbers
