Gujarat: I-T Dept’s Meet Kosambia Secures Gold in Aerobic Gymnastics at 38th National Games

| Updated: February 12, 2025 20:07

Meet Kosambia, an athlete from Gujarat and associated with the Income Tax Office, has won the gold medal in the Aerobic Gymnastics event at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand.

Kosambia, who had previously secured a gold medal in the 2023 National Games and a bronze in the National Aerobic Gymnastics Championship at the New Gymnastics Academy, MA Stadium, Jammu, has once again demonstrated his excellence in the sport.

Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Gujarat, Satish Sharma, extended their congratulations to Kosambia, stating, “The income tax family feels proud of you. Keep it up. All the best for the future.”

The Income Tax Department of Gujarat recently recruited 59 meritorious sportspeople (both female and male) under the Meritorious Sports Quota recruitment rules.

The 38th edition of the National Games is currently underway in Uttarakhand, featuring participation from 28 states, eight union territories, and the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB).

SSCB currently leads the medals tally with 97 medals, including 54 gold, 22 silver, and 21 bronze. Maharashtra follows with 146 medals, comprising 41 gold, 52 silver, and 53 bronze, while Karnataka holds third place with 62 medals, including 31 gold, 13 silver, and 18 bronze. Nagaland, Puducherry, and Sikkim have yet to secure a gold medal in the competition.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has scheduled the 38th National Games from January 28 to February 14, 2025. This edition features competitions across 36 sporting disciplines.

Initially, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the IOA and the Uttarakhand State Olympic Association (USOA) in 2014 outlined competitions in 34 sports disciplines, which were reconfirmed in 2019. The Uttarakhand government reaffirmed its commitment to hosting the Games, ensuring smooth infrastructure development.

The IOA and the Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC) have approved 32 sports disciplines and four demonstration sports, including Kalarippayattu, Yogasana, Mallakhambh, and Rafting.

IOA President PT Usha remarked, “The 38th National Games in Uttarakhand promise to be a landmark event in promoting both traditional and modern sports in India. The inclusion of demonstration sports reflects our commitment to honouring India’s rich heritage while encouraging new opportunities for athletes. Uttarakhand has made commendable efforts to ensure world-class facilities, and we look forward to a successful celebration of sportsmanship.”
