After a veritable hiatus of two years, Gujaratis on Friday threw all Covid fears to the winds with a vengeance and spread a riot of colour in the air, streets, shops, offices, buildings, housing colonies and entertainment clubs.
Youngsters, middle-aged and senior citizens were all part of the festivities in their own way. If the streets looked less crowded than normal during the day, at many places the tar on the roads was blanketed by pink, red, violet, dark brown, silver, yellow et al.
The symbolism of unity among diversity so unique and special of India was visible all over Ahmedabad.
The celebrations had an air of uncanny liberation with Amdavadis tired of at least three waves of the dreaded Covid-19 virus painted the town in all mixes of colour one could imagine. There were scenes of an entire staff of police stations enjoying the festival.
Colours, water, songs and food – Ahmedabadis were all geared up to celebrate Holi this year. Streets were full of colourful happy faces and a large number of people were seen celebrating. Many private event companies organised special Holi get-togethers too. People partied and danced to the DJ and even participated in rain dance. Also a large number of people gathered to celebrate Holi at Swaminarayan Temple.
