The Gujarat High Court has sent a notice to the State Information department on another petition challenging direct recruitment of Class-II Assistant Director of Information. The petition has been filed by employees currently serving as Senior Sub-Editor in Class-3.
The petitioners have argued before the Gujarat High Court that the Information and Broadcasting Department of the State Government had amended some provisions in 2019 regarding recruitment and promotion.
So, employees working as senior members in the current class 3 are not likely to get the benefit of promotion in future as recruitment for the post of assistant information officer in class 2 has been done through direct recruitment examination. This has created a situation where experienced employees are being denied due promotion.
Counsel for the petitioners submitted in Court that, as per the rule, the ratio of 3.1 means three posts per four posts have to be filled through promotion and one post is filled through the examination. However, this provision has not been complied with in the recruitment of Information Department.
