Gujarat: Heavy Rain Causes Severe Water-Logging in Many Areas

| Updated: June 30, 2024 20:09

Heavy rains fell on Sunday in several parts of Gujarat, causing traffic disruptions and water logging in several areas, including the districts of Valsad and Surat.

Mahuva in Surat has received around 2 inches of rain; however, Valsad has received over 4 inches. Both Surat City and Umargam had experienced half an inch of rain. Palsana saw almost an inch of rain.

Katargam, Dabholi, and Singapor areas in Surat had knee-deep water logging on roads. Water logging caused the Garnalu (underpass) in Valsad to be closed to traffic for a period of time. The underpass is a vital aspect of the journey to Dharampur Chokdi.

Palsana in Surat city, which received 5.23 inches of rain, topped the list, followed by Bardoli (4.60 inches), Vapi (4.40 inches), Mahuva (4.25 inches), Olpad (3.97 inches), Surat city (3.62 inches), Valsad (3.50 inches), Kamrej (3.14 inches), and talukas such as Khergam, Dharampur, Sankheda, Bharuch, Umarpada, Mandvi, Songadh, Kaprada, Valod, Nasvsari, Vyara, Vandevi, Pardi, etc.

The areas surrounding Science City and Gota in Ahmedabad have experienced the most rainfall, with nearly 7 inches. The roads are flooded with water. The rainfall continued throughout the afternoon. For the fast release of water, four gates of the Vasna barrage are opened in 1.5-foot measurements in the early afternoon.
