While the crime rate in Surat has been on the rise, this incident points at social tempers hitting a fatal point. Post an argument in a cooperative society’s elevator, an elderly man was punched such that he succumbed to the blows. The deceased has been identified as Harsh Sanghavi’s uncle.
The city police registered a case of murder following the bereaved family’s complaints.
Reportedly, Maheshbhai Sanghavi and his daughter were returning home after a shopping spree Saturday evening. They got into the elevator and shared space with another resident of the same apartment complex, Adajan Ratan Park. Details of what exactly led to the argument are yet to emerge but what is definite is that the young man punched the elderly Mahesh Bhai on his nose. “He was bleeding profusely when they reached home and was rushed to the hospital,” stated the domestic when contacted on the incident.
Unfortunately, he was pronounced “brought dead.” Parents of Minister of state for Home Harsh Sanghavi left Gandhinagar for Surat, early Sunday morning.
The accused has been identified as Bonnie Kamlesh Mehta and the Rander PS has initiated a probe into the incident. The deceased, Maheshbhai Shantilal Sanghavi, a diamantaire, lived a retired life. He is survived by two sons and two daughters.
