Gujarat Govt Mandates PG Accommodation Registration

| Updated: July 4, 2024 18:56

The Gujarat government has made it mandatory for operators of paying guest (PG) accommodations to register residents’ details with local police stations. The new regulation, which came into effect last month, requires PG operators to provide information such as names, addresses, phone numbers and identification for all residents.

On Tuesday, during a routine inspection, police officers discovered violations at two PG accommodations in the Anandnagar area’s Smit Sagar Society. Seven women were found to have been residing in Bungalow No. 18 without proper registration for the past three months. The upper floor of the property, owned by Jashiben, was being managed by Jitendrabhai, who charged Rs. 20,000 per month for the accommodation.

Similarly, in Bungalow No. 42, three girls had been staying for six months. Pankaj Maheriya, the operator of this PG, paid Rs. 10,000 per month to the owner, Motibhai. However, neither Jashiben nor Pankaj Maheriya had registered the residents’ details with the police, leading to legal action against them.

The Gujarat police now have the authority to take strict measures against non-compliant PG operators.
