The Gujarat Revenue Department has filed FIRs against 49 people for allegedly grabbing government land worth an estimated Rs 70 crore in Ahmedabad’s Vejalpur-Makarba area near SG Highway. The value is according to the government-fixed (Jantri) rates of 2011, which means the actual cost of land could nearlybe more than double at the current market prices.
According to three separate FIRs filed by a revenue department ‘s Aditya Thakkar, the accused persons captured 36,118 square metres land bearing survey numbers 324, 385 and 593.
Official sources said the modus operandi of the accused persons to grab government property was to create fake litigation against the government in a civil court and build unauthorized structures on the land.
When the officials pasted notices on the premises stating that this was a government property, they would simply remove the notices and carry on their business.
