The cybercrime police station of Ahmedabad on Wednesday filed a complaint of fraud against a fake State Bank of India customer care employee.
Complainant Bhavika told the police that the person whom she had contacted to assist her with the net banking issues posed as an SBI employee.
The 41-year-old complainant, working in a private media house, told the police that she had issues with SBI net banking on November 1, 2021. She checked the customer care number, 7848865598, on the internet, which turned out to be fake.
She said, “The person posing as a customer care employee from SBI asked me to download the app AnyDesk to help me with the net banking issues. I gave him the bank account details and did as he had instructed me to do.”
After that, the fake employee stole Rs 4,80,000 on November 1 from her account. And Rs 2.91 lakh the next day, in instalments.
The police have filed a complaint under sections 406, 420, 66 (c) and 66 (d) against cheating and fraud. The matter is currently under investigation.
