Cyber criminals have been caught using a fake email address to extract personal information from government employees in Gujarat, India.
The cybercrime police have filed a complaint for forgery and violations of the Information Technology Act against the unnamed individuals behind the scheme.
According to Constable Ashwinkumar Virji’s complaint, the police were informed that someone was collecting personal information from government employees using the email address ps-crm-cyb@gujarat.gov.in. The technical examination of the email revealed that the accused had gained illegal access to the information.
Cybercrime officers are reportedly gathering information about the various emails sent from this address, but declined to provide any further details to protect the ongoing investigation. The accused faces charges under sections 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery with the purpose of cheating), and 471 (using a forged document or electronic record) of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Information Technology Act.
