| Updated: July 3, 2024 17:12

Five Congress party workers were apprehended following a stone pelting incident that occurred on July 2, 2024. An FIR has been lodged at the Ellisbridge Police Station, targeting three Congress workers and an unidentified mob involved in the violent clash.

The fight unfolded as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers approached the Congress headquarters yesterday. Provocative slogans were raised and Congress workers hurled stones and sticks. In retaliation, BJP workers also engaged in stone pelting, leading to chaos. A police officer was struck on the head by a stone during the melee and subsequently required hospitalisation. Several BJP workers sustained injuries as well.

An FIR has been filed against Shehzad Khan Pathan (Leader of Opposition in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation), Pragatiben Nandaniya and Hetaben Parikh. The unnamed individuals from both the Congress and BJP camps who participated in the incident are also implicated. Charges have been levied under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including 189(2), 191(2), 190, 191(3), 125(b), 121(1) and 121(2).

In addition to these arrests, the police have detained Sanjay Brahmabhatt (Spokesperson of Ahmedabad city Congress), Manish Thakor (Congress Naranpura ward president), Mukesh Dantani (Ahmedabad Congress vice president), Congress worker Vimal Kansara and NSUI spokesperson Harsh Parmar for their alleged involvement in the violent clash.
