Gujarat Cong Leaders To Meet High Command In Delhi On April 3

| Updated: March 27, 2025 18:36

District and city presidents of the Gujarat Congress will travel to New Delhi on April 3 for discussions with the party’s high command. The visit follows Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent trip to Gujarat, where he hinted at a restructuring of the state unit.

A total of 33 district and eight city presidents are expected to attend the meeting at Gandhi Bhavan in New Delhi.

The agenda will focus on fortifying the party’s grassroots network ahead of the local body elections next year. Additionally, the decentralisation of power within the state unit will be a key topic of discussion.

This initiative is part of a nationwide organisational overhaul by Congress, involving a three-phase engagement with 700 district presidents across the country.

Gujarat’s leaders will engage with senior leadership to deliberate on strategies for strengthening the party’s presence and enhancing its campaign efforts.

In addition, Congress will host its national convention in Ahmedabad on April 8-9, reflecting the party’s renewed emphasis on Gujarat.

What Rahul Had Said?

During his recent visit, Rahul Gandhi voiced strong criticism of internal challenges within the party. Addressing a workers’ meeting in Ahmedabad on March 8, he accused certain Congress leaders of secretly supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while remaining within the party.

“There are two types of Congress leaders—those genuinely committed to the party’s ideology and those who, despite being part of Congress, act in the interest of the BJP,” Gandhi said.

He insisted that the removal of leaders he described as the “B team of the BJP” was essential for the party to succeed in Gujarat.

Gandhi acknowledged the party’s failure to connect with the public in Gujarat, attributing it to divisions within the leadership. “One section of our leadership respects the people and understands Gujarat’s values. The other section is detached and compromised,” he remarked.

Emphasising the need for decisive measures, Gandhi called for the expulsion of 20 to 40 leaders if necessary. “Winning or losing elections is secondary. What truly matters is ensuring Congress remains under the leadership of those who uphold its core values,” he said.

Referencing Gujarat’s legacy in India’s independence movement, Gandhi highlighted the contributions of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel.

He criticised the BJP’s governance, claiming it had left the state without direction and arguing that Congress had failed to present itself as a viable alternative.

The upcoming meetings in Delhi and Ahmedabad are expected to be pivotal in Congress’s efforts to regain political strength in Gujarat and reinforce its presence at the grassroots level.
