Gujarat Braces for Heavy Rainfall as Monsoon Intensifies

The monsoon is back in Gujarat, with a cyclonic circulation over the northeast Arabian Sea adjoining the state, situated between 4.5 and 5.8 km above mean sea level. As a result, Gujarat is likely to experience more heavy rainfall in the coming days.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for parts of the state for the upcoming weekend.

As per the latest report, several districts in Gujarat are expected to receive very heavy rainfall exceeding 8 inches from August 24 to August 28.

On August 22, the IMD issued a yellow warning for Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, ChhotaUdepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dangs, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad and Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli, indicating that heavy rains are very likely in these areas.

On August 23, a yellow warning for likely heavy rains remains in effect for Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dangs, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad and in Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli.

On August 24, an orange alert is in place, predicting heavy to very heavy rains in a few places, with isolated extremely heavy falls likely in Vadodara and Chhota Udepur. Very heavy rains are also predicted in Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dangs, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad and Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli.

Meanwhile, a yellow warning of heavy rain is in effect for Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Mahisagar, Surendranagar, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Botad and Diu.

On August 25, an orange alert is in place for districts including Panchmahal, Chhota Udaipur, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Kheda, Anand, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Narmada and Bharuch, as very to extremely heavy rains are likely in these areas.

A yellow warning of heavy rain has been issued for Patan, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Surat, Dangs, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Botad and Diu.

On August 26, an orange alert is in place for Narmada, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Surat, Dangs, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad and in Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli, Surendranagar, Amreli and Botad.

Heavy rains are very likely in isolated places in Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Kheda, Mahisagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Gir Somnath and in Diu, thus the yellow warning is in effect for these districts.

On August 27, an orange alert is in place in Surendranagar and Botad, Patan, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Anand, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Dwarka and Kutch, as they may experience heavy to very heavy rains with isolated extremely heavy falls.

Meanwhile, a yellow warning has been issued for Banaskantha, Mehsana, Kheda, Vadodara and Bharuch, as well as the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch, namely Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir Somnath and Diu.

On August 28, an orange alert for likely heavy to very heavy rains is issued for Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Morbi, Dwarka and Botad. A yellow warning of heavy rains is in place in Patan, Ahmedabad, Anand, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Kutch and Diu.
