Gujarat: Bomb Threat Letter Found on International Flight at Ahmedabad Airport

| Updated: February 10, 2025 15:16

A bomb threat letter was discovered inside an international flight at Sardar Patel International Airport (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad on Monday. The letter, which allegedly threatened a bomb blast, was found aboard the Jeddah-Ahmedabad flight after it landed at the airport early in the morning.

The local police, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and security agencies conducted a thorough search of the aircraft after the threat was discovered under one of the seats.

“A flight carrying passengers from Jeddah landed at the Ahmedabad airport in the morning. After all the passengers alighted, the cleaning staff found a note with a threat to blow up the flight. Local police, along with security agencies, have started the investigation,” said a police official.

Sharad Singhal, Joint Commissioner of Police for the Crime Branch, confirmed that nothing suspicious was found following the search of the aircraft.

He added that forensic experts have been called in to match fingerprints and handwriting samples to passengers aboard the flight to determine if anyone was responsible for the threat. “We will check the fingerprints and handwriting of each passenger. As of now, nothing suspicious has been found,” he stated.

This incident is the latest in a series of bomb threats across the country, many of which have turned out to be hoaxes. On February 7, bomb threats were received via email at several educational institutions in Delhi-NCR, including St Stephen’s College, Ahlcon International School, and the Shiv Nadar School. Explosive disposal units and dog squads were deployed to search the premises, but no threats were found. The Delhi Police later confirmed that the threats were hoaxes.

“The threats were thoroughly investigated, and nothing suspicious was found at any of the locations,” a Delhi Police spokesperson said.

They further explained that at St Stephen’s College, searches were carried out in every building and open space, while Ahlcon International School was also checked without incident.

In a similar case, two private schools in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, were evacuated on February 4 after receiving bomb threat emails. The threats were later declared hoaxes by police, who also registered cases against unidentified individuals for making false claims.

The bomb scares caused disruptions, affecting an examination by the Staff Selection Commission at one of the schools, and leading to the postponement of a practical exam at another.
